Football League Test Match Series

Promotion and relegation was decided in a series of Test Matches between the bottom three clubs in the First Division and the top three clubs in the Second Division. The third from bottom club in the First Division played the third club in the Second Division, the second from bottom in the First Division played the second club in the Second Division and the bottom club in the First Division played the top club in Second Division in one-off matches at neutral venues with the winners playing in the First Division the following season and the losers in the Second Division.

Election for League Membership

To bring the Second Division up to its full compliment of 16 clubs one new club was due to be elected to the Division at the end of 1893/94. Northwich Victoria resigned prior to the AGM leaving a second vacancy. Seven non-league sides came up against the two League sides seeking re-election in the vote for the four places in the League.
